'Origins' project FAQ

“Origins & Ancestries: Genesis” is the first of 10 drops with the goal of making the Web3 art and collectibles space more diverse and inclusive. The drop will be on Ethereum at low “Buy now” prices rather than an auction-style mint. The 4,500 collectibles (including digital artworks) will be released in four batches over a period of four weeks to give everyone fair access.

Every buyer receives an Expressions All-Access Pass granting you token-gated access to online and in-person live events with groundbreaking artists and creatives.

We have waived all marketplace transaction fees for the “Origins & Ancestries: Genesis” drop. The only thing you'll need to pay (in addition to the cost of the NFT) are the gas fees — the transaction fee associated with minting the NFT. You’ll see the amount during checkout.

The “Origins” drop offers a range of NFT licenses, from a general-use license to full commercial rights, depending on the NFT. Check each NFT detail page for the specific license.

Expressions is a project of the nonprofit Artists and Creatives Foundation in partnership with the Amberfi platform. Our team members are all publicly identified and hail from the U.S., Japan, India, Singapore, Nigeria, Brazil, Thailand, Argentina, The Bahamas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Puerto Rico, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine — because we believe diversity is the fabric that makes teams stronger and smarter. Amberfi’s investors include Animoca Brands, Polygon Studios, Delta Blockchain Fund, Matrixport and Hailstone Ventures.

All funds go to the artist or to a worthy Caribbean nonprofit. For every one of the NFTs in the drop, at least 5% to 10% of the primary proceeds go to a Caribbean nonprofit such as Hope for Haiti, the Sea Turtle Conservancy, Caribbean Equality Project, etc.

Part of every purchase also goes to helping us build out Expressions, our upcoming next-generation Web3 creativity platform and social marketplace.

You should be able to buy any of these works with a credit card or with ETH.

There are several ways to get ETH, the currency of Ethereum. One option is to open a free account at a trusted cryptocurrency exchange. We recommend Coinbase or Gemini. Then you simply buy ETH using a bank transfer or a credit/debit card and you can transfer the desired amount to the noncustodial wallet created for you when you register on Expressions. Be aware, though, that some exchanges require a short waiting period before funds can be transferred. (You also have the option of registering on Expressions by connecting with an existing Metamask account.)

Another option is to log into Expressions, click your wallet (the orange icon circled in blue) at the bottom left of your screen, click the "Open wallet" link, and select the "Top up" tab. From there, you'll see a host of trusted services such as Banxa, MoonPay, Transak and others that do this all the time for a tiny transaction fee. Just follow the instructions on screen. You can transfer funds into and out of your wallet at any time.

Yes. Just be aware that you need to register by connecting your Metamask wallet during the quick registration process. If you connect your Metamask wallet after registering with an email address, the system will only see your noncustodial Amberfi wallet as the wallet used for bidding.

When you register or log into Expressions, you'll see your wallet at the bottom left of your screen – it’s the orange icon circled in blue. Just click your wallet, move your cursor to the clipboard icon at the top right of the popup and click it. There. You've just copied your wallet address. You'll need to log into our site the same way whenever you return since your account is tied to your original log-in.

As soon as you approve the transaction, the ownership of the digital collectible and accompanying artwork or media file passes to you. After it's in your wallet, you can use the art or media attached to your NFT in any of the ways permitted under its NFT license. The NFT may also contain certain utilities or bonuses that you can see on the NFT detail page.

All art and media in this drop are stored on IPFS, a Web3 storage solution, and "pinned" by NFT Storage to ensure that your NFT's corresponding media will always be available for you to access for years to come (as long as you still own the NFT). Upon purchase, the record of the transaction becomes attached to your wallet, including the url where you can download the original high-fidelity version of the artwork or media file.

All NFTs in the Origins & Ancestries drop are governed by a standard smart contract that provides a token ID and assigns ownership on the blockchain and reassigns it if it’s transferred or resold. Check the Details tab of any NFT detail page to see the smart contract address, the token standard, token ID and where the media is stored.
