Our mission
The Sea Turtle Conservancy, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, is the world’s oldest sea turtle research and conservation group. The organization was founded in 1959 by world-renowned sea turtle expert Dr. Archie Carr to save sea turtles from imminent extinction through science-based conservation efforts. The group is harnessing its decades of experience to carry out the world’s most successful sea turtle protection and recovery programs.

Our work
Sea turtles have been with us for tens of millions of years. Whether they survive will tell us much about the health of the world’s marine and coastal ecosystems. Our work in the Caribbean and beyond will help these ancient creatures coexist sustainably with us – and ultimately thrive.
